As a parent safety is always the first thing on my mind when driving, and even more so now that my youngest just turned 15 this week and will be getting her driving permit any day {yikes! how did THAT happen?}. That means we now have to worry about both of our girls when they are out on the road. No matter how careful we all are when driving, things can and will happen……accidents, flat tires, car trouble or running out of gas.
We have been discussing things like how to jump a battery, how to pull over with a flat tire, what to do if she leaves the movie theater to find out she forgot to turn the headlights out, always pay attention to the gas gauge and what we would do if she was stranded an hour away from home.
Fortunately, the Good Hands Roadside Assistance service from Allstate gives us access to the Allstate 24/7 Nationwide Roadside network, with no annual fee. That’s right! Allstate wants every driver to be safe on the road, Good Hands® Roadside Assistance is the first free-to-join, pay-per-use, roadside assistance service that is available to all drivers, not just Allstate customers. you can be in Good Hands® even if you’re not an Allstate policy holder. I LOVE that peace of mind.

Love your 5 mandatory rules list. I don’t no how to get it through to my kids just how very dangerous texting or changing an itunes song is while they’re driving! They promise me they wont do it but sometimes a little birdie tattles. But seriously, the phone thing really scares me. Both of mine are in college so it’s not like I can take their phones away!
Allstate has some AMAZING smart phone apps. If your teen does happen to be in an accident all they have to do is activate the app and it will help them follow the steps and contact their agent for them. And best of all, it was FREE.
I remember how nervous my mom was when I got my driver’s permit. I don’t know how long it took for her to be okay with the fact that I was driving, not sure that she is still! lol Good luck with the driving lessons!
One of our boys is about to get his permit and I am NERVOUS! Love those mandatory rules!!
So great to create a set of rules like that! It will give you some peace of mind.
Good rules!!! Only 3.5 years for our kiddo and I’m already nervous!
We made our daughter drive us everywhere after she got her permit. The first day she drove on the interstate, a busy loop around our city, and in the rain. The next week she drove us on a 2 hour trip, etc. That way we knew she had tons of experience driving before got her license. (She had also driven her grandparents golf cart around their house thousands of times growing up–even learning to parellel park between trees!)
One other rule we had for our daughter:
No passengers, other than adults, in her car for a year and no more than 2 the next year. According to insurance statistics, that decreased her chance of an accident by more than 50%. Her first and only accident (minor) was junior year of college. She’s 22 and has driven from Michigan to Florida.
