Bacon, Ranch and Dill French Fries for Alexia Foods “Reinvent a Classic” {my entry}

 

I bet you all are wondering about my Alexia Foods “Reinvent a Classic” Final Entry!

 I asked you all for flavor suggestions………..and I was blown away by all the suggestions! Even though I had to submit my entry on July 20, I think I will continue to try some of the flavor combos left in the comments.

I asked on Facebook if you liked Russet or Sweet Potatoes best, when it comes to french fries

 

I asked how you like your french fries cut Waffle,  Crinkle, Wedge or Julienne.

Waffle cut won by a landslide!

If you’ve been reading along for the last month, you know I’ve been trying to create a one-of-a-kind french fry flavor for Alexia Foods, along with 20 other fabulous bloggers.  The top 4 will win a trip to the Foodbuzz Blogger Festival in November to unveil their creations for sampling, and up for public vote on facebook.

The winning entry will then become an of Alexia Foods French Fry flavor in 2012!

Needless to say, my family has been eating a lot of fries, and I’ve heard NO complaints! lol

After some trial and error, I have learned a few things:

  • I haven’t met a fry I don’t like
  • It’s hard to cook a crispy fry
  • My madeoline makes julienne cut WAY to skinny (my fries looked like hashbrowns)
  • Raw sweet potatoes are VERY hard to cut! You MUST have a good sharp knife.
  • Alexia frozen fries would have made for much prettier pictures! lol

A few contenders we came up with

Black Truffle and Parmesan

 

Maple and Brown Sugar & Cinnamon Sweet Potato Fries

 

Both were fantastic, yet our last idea drew the biggest cheers.

Bacon, Ranch and Dill

 

My family dunks everything in ranch, so a ranch flavored french fry just made sense……..fry it up in a little bacon grease and throw in a little dill and I think you have the perfect fry for any sandwich!

Bacon Ranch and Dill French Fries

Yield: 4

Bacon Ranch and Dill French Fries

Ingredients

  • 3 large Russet Potatoes, cut julienne style
  • 1 package Ranch Dressing Mix
  • 1 teaspoon Dill Weed
  • Bacon grease from one pound of Bacon
  • salt, to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat bacon grease in large skillet on medium high heat until sizzling.
  2. Place ranch mix and dill weed in large zippered plastic bag.
  3. Add potatoes and shake until well coated.
  4. Slowly add fries to hot grease.
  5. Reduce heat to medium.
  6. Cook for about 10 mins, or until bottom layer is nice and brown.
  7. Gently flip fries and gently stir as they continue to cook (about another 7-10 mins.)
  8. Lightly salt and serve immediately/

I submitted this recipe as a waffle cut because as good as they were, I though they would be even better as a waffle fry!
