I have my first photography class this Saturday, that is specifically for the Nikon D40! I’m so excited and look forward to learning how my camera works, and get out of Auto!
How about a FREE class for photo EDITING? JessicaSprague.com will host an incredible photo editing class you don’t want to miss! Mark your calendar for June 22. That’s the day registration opens for the FREE instructor-led class of 2009. This FREE two-week class begins on July 6, 2009! (*Hopefully I’ll have my desktop computer back, and running Photo Shop CS by then – keep your fingers crossed for me!)
Do you have a Nikon D40? I’d love to hear about your favorite lenses. I’m in the market for a prime lens next!
Or do you have some suggestions on GREAT photography books or websites? Please leave me a comment with the details!!

Hey Cheryl, good luck with your classes. I bought Nikon D40 and D40x for Dummies and have been using that as my class. I loved my camera in auto but now that I have taken pics in Manual for a couple months, I don't like how auto photos look in comparison. I really have no clue how to use my camera at all. I just tinker around with it a lot. I have been thinking of taking a class so I can't wait to hear how you like it.

LOL Liz – NO WAY you'll look GORGEOUS at any angle!!
Thanks Emily – I'll look for that book. My class is at the local camera shop where I bought the camera – they have camera specific classes, for about $65 I think, and you get a $25 coupon when you purchase there. You may want to check if you have any camera shops around, I bet the offer a class too, it's only 2 hours, but should help get me started, plus they can answer your questions.

I hope you do a post on what folks suggest for favorite lenses for the D40. I have one too and have no idea where to go next. Thanks for the fun video – learned a lot.

Thanks Donna ! That's the only lens I've bought so far – I do have the kit lens, but I was able to get the 18-200 with VR for 1/2 price when I bought my camera! LOVE it!!

I can't wait for the class this weekend! I'm still using auto mode and sometimes no flash, but I really want to learn how to adjust it manually.
My camera came with the 18-55 and the 55-200 lenses.

This video cracks me up!! ha! That is so me when I take photos of friends and family. It takes me several minutes to get everyone set up before I take the photo. It amazes me that people don't know their good side, etc.
In our family, we have multiple chins! LOL! I'm constantly saying "chin out and angle it down!!"
Have fun in your class:-)

Thanks so much for sharing this. I am in charge of the campus website. i am by no means a photographer, but I get the "pleasure" of gathering the different gradelevel teachers together for the bulletin board and website. They never come out good. I will remember some of these things.
