See how I turned our small guest room into an amethyst bedroom worthy of a high-end hotel. With touches of copper and gold, IKEA shelves and West Elm bedding.

When we moved to this house last year, one of the things I was most excited about was we would finally have a guest room!! Most of our family lives close by, so we’ve really never had a need for one, but I do love having the extra room when an out of town friend comes to visit or a guest decides to spend the night.  And I’ll be honest……having another bedroom to decorate is fun too!

I don’t have any before pictures to show you, because it’s one of those projects that happened with out any real planning, and I still have a little more to do, but I wanted to share the progress with you!

It’s a small room, so it does have it’s challenges.

Simmons Comforpedic IQ™ from Beautyrest mattress is super high-tech with Smart Response™ Technology offering personalized support plus it has Ultra Cool™ Memory Foam keeping it nice and cool.

It all started when we upgraded the old hand-me-down mattress to a ComforPedic IQfrom Beautyrest mattress. It’s  high-tech with Smart Response Technology offering personalized support by naturally responding to your body’s individual weight and sleeping position throughout the night (without any motors or electronics) plus it has Ultra Cool Memory Foam keeping it nice and cool.   Only the best for our guests 😉

By intuitively adapting to your every move during the night, this mattress not only ensures that you get your best sleep at night, but also provides continued positive results after you get out of bed and start your day.  —-they may never want to leave!

Our old bed was a full size, and the new ComforPedic IQ™ is a queen size bed……..so you know what that means?!  New bedding!

The minute I walked into West Elm, I feel in love with the Amethyst Organic Diamond Medallion Matelasse Duvet Cover and Organic Ikat Stripe Sheet Set .  They looked perfect layered with a Lexington Coverlet in Pearl for a little extra warmth.

Since the room is so small I was having a really hard time figuring out what to do about a night stand.  So I decided to skip one all together and install open shelves on the wall next to the closet and bed, with the lowest shelf set up to use as a night stand! Ikea EKBY JÄRPEN/ EKBY BJÄRNUM worked perfectly and best of all – they are only $15 a piece!  I love how it turned out.

The bed is only about 15 inches from the wall, so we placed the lowest self about 8 inches higher than the bed, making a perfect spot for a small lamp, bowl for jewelry and shelf space and an outlet below for cell phone too!  I filled the other shelves mostly with things I had around the house.

I was walking thru the plumbing department at Lowes one day when I spied these copper plumbing fittings that would look awesome with the air plants I had picked up at our local nursery.  No soil is needed, and they thrive on neglect!  so I just dropped them in the copper fittings and I take them out to mist with a little water every week or two.

The bankers lamp and gold bowl are both from Target.  All of the other items I’ve had for a while.

What’s left to do?

Paint – I originally thought I wanted to paint the room a creamy white, but now that the room is done, I don’t really mind the beige color that was already on the walls.  The sun kept going in and out the day I took these pictures, so that’s why some of these pictures look more yellow than others.  It definitely needs fresh paint.  I would love opinions on color.  I already have a lot of Benjamin Moore Covington Gray in the house.  I love it in our family room and hall ways but I’d like to do something other than grey again.

Dresser – I’m on the hunt for a narrow dresser that wont take up a lot of space, but give a little bit of storage.

Art work for the other walls.

Window – I put up IKEA Vivan curtains that were just $10 a pair!! I love how light and airy they are, but I need to get a shade or blinds for a little privacy when needed.

This was such a fun room to work on!  I wanted to make it feel feminine with out being too “girly”  I must have done a good job………because my husband seems to have no problem sleeping in there some nights.  He claims someone is snoring in our room (I’m SURE it’s the dog lol) and he’s loving the new mattress and bedding.  He said it feels like he’s staying in a high end hotel!  So I guess that means it’s guest ready!!……..who wants to be first?

Disclaimer:  I have a working relationship with Beautyrest, who sent me the most comfortable mattress for our guests to sleep on!  As always, all views and opinions are my own.
