Let’s take a little spin with the Whirlpool Duet Washer & Dryer #WhirlpoolMoms

I‘m pretty excited about this.

I think you all might know by now, that I’m a little obsessed with laundry.  For the most part, I like to stay on top of it and do a load or so most every day.   Ok, let me confess, my husband may actually do more laundry than I do, and my girls help out quite a bit too……for those of you with younger kids, just wait, your day will come soon {wink}.  Although we try to keep up with our routines, none of us are perfect with the housework, and we do get behind. (did I ever mention that starting this blog has made me a “not as tidy of a mom” hehe)  But I digress, our old washer and dryer managed to keep up with everything we put them thru.

So imagine my SURPRISE when I got an email a few weeks ago asking if I would like to be a Whirlpool Mom and give their new Duet Washer and Dryer a little spin! FOR ME? Why YES I would, thankyouverymuch!  Our current set was old, not pretty (not there’s anything wrong with that), the dryer seemed to be taking longer and longer to dry, and we had to pull out the lint catcher with a string my husband attached when the handle broke off.  Basically, not a couple I enjoyed spending time with every day.

I’m not thrilled with our “laundry room”…….it’s in our unfinished basement.  So replacing an ugly not so great washer and dryer that no one will ever see but us, was never very high on my list to take care of.  Yet they were appliances that I used on a daily basis, and never looked forward to our visits.

So this, my friends, is like CHRISTMAS!!  and I thought MAYBE, just maybe this will make me look forward do doing laundry!

It’s now our one month anniversary, and are you curious how it’s working out?

Ummm…….I’m doing a LOT more laundry than my husband is these days (he thanks you Whirlpool) and I’m actually enjoying my daily visits with my new friends!  The Whirlpool Duets are beyond fancy!  They light up and even play music when I turn them on!  Seriously!! Like a little serenade.

A few of my favorite features so far:

Precision Dispense

The Duet Washer has a dispenser cartridge that holds up to 18.5 oz of liquid HE detergent, which is enough for up to 36 loads depending on the cycle.  What does that mean?  It means no more worrying about how much detergent my family is adding to each load, no more pouring messy detergent with every load……..I can pour the HE detergent* into the cartridge once and the Duet Washer will dispense the proper amount of detergent for each wash up to 36 loads!  How cool is THAT?  *precision dispense only works with liquid detergent.  For powdered detergent you just removed the precision dispenser and add your detergent with each load.

Fan Fresh Option

Press this button before a load and the Duet Washer periodically tumbles the wash after the end of the cycle for up to 16 hours while the interior fan circulates air through the washer to reduce humidity.  What does that mean? If I can’t move the load to the dry right away, The Duet Washer will keep the load clean and fresh for up to 16 hours.  No more stinky/musty clothes because someone forgot to move them to the dryer!

Stain Assist

The full-color LCD screen gives practical advice on stain removal.  So if I have a stain that I’m not sure how to treat I can just ask my Duet Washer for advice!!………See I told you they are great new friends!

Wrinkle Shield with Steam

Similar to the washer, the dryer has an option to keep clothes fresh with wrinkle shield and steam.  What does this mean?  Periodically the Duet dryer tumbles clothes for up to 140 minutes, helping prevent wrinkles from setting in = less ironing!

Honestly we are still learning all the great features, and some, I just haven’t had the chance to use yet, like the sanitize setting that can kill 99.9% of bacteria (will be handy with flu season coming up), and specialty cycles specifically for washing pillows! you can even choose, feather, down or decorative pillows!  The best thing is, the LCD screen walks you right thru everything and makes it all very easy to figure out.

I can’t wait to share more of these features with you and everything I learned during my stay at The Real Whirled House recently.

Let me know if you have any laundry issues and I’ll see if I can get answers for you from the laundryologist and fabric care experts I met from Whirlpool!!

We just recently bought a set of these used (but practically perfect in every way). We are beyond happy with them. They clean our clothes superbly with very little effort on our part. We still have to load the detergent with each load but that is no big deal. Thanks for sharing.

I’d LOVE to get a new washer/dryer, but the problem is my laundry room. It would require a washer that has a reversible door. The only brand that does that is Electrolux and I don’t like the added “scent” they put in the rubber gasket seal. I’ve been waiting and waiting for Whirlpool to come up w/ that one simple feature. Maybe you can pass that request along?????

    Thanks! Enjoy your new washer/dryer!

Angela, my old set I had the washer on the right, dryer on the left. But when they installed my new set we had to switch it and it all worked out fine, can you not just switch which side they are sitting on?

regardless, I will definitely mention it!

Cheryl: We had the Whirpool Duet a couple of years ago and just had the worst luck with them. Less than a month after purchasing, the dryer died. It was going to take them 2 weeks to repair and with 4 kids….not gonna happen. We ended up taking them both back and getting LG. My sister also has the Duet and also has problems with the dryer.

Hopefully yours will continue to work great for you. I do admit though that I LOVED the colors and all the buttons. Though my LG also plays music for me.

    Enjoy!!

Ooooooo!!! I LOVE my Whirlpool Duet set and it doesn’t even do all yours does! Ours is old enough that it doesn’t have all those fancy features, but I love how well it cleans and dries our clothes. We originally purchased the set back when my son regularly suffered from nighttime enuresis. His comforter was soaked every morning and the daily washings in our old washer kept destroying the balancing mechanism and it took 3 or more cycles to dry in the dryer. Our Duet washed and dried that comforter without blinking. What a blessing! Now I love the larger loads we can wash and that they dry in almost the same time as it takes to wash them. I am still very very happy with them. :)

oh, my laundry envy keeps growing… not only because you have an awesome machine but because I still can’t afford a new machine and have to lug my laundry to someone else’s house.. (and everyone is away this weekend, of course!)

I have the Whirlpool Duet. It’s getting close to 2 years old now and doesn’t have the detergent capacity that your model does. Within the first year my washer began to sound like a jet engine taking off and made clanking sounds. I called Lowe’s (where I made my purchase and a 2 year warranty). The person on the phone questioned , “Did you call your purchase in when you made it? etc., etc., etc. First of all no one told me to call it in, so no…I didn’t but I mailed a warranty card and put it on my Lowe’s card so I would have a paper trail. I was told a warranty card was never received and so I told them to check my account it was purchased through for documentation. After much negativity a service person came out, took it apart, said they needed to order parts and they would be back in a week. Service person finally came back after about a month and fixed the machine, which had to be gutted (it was literally taken apart and laid out on my front lawn. Bottom line…it was a great imposition to be without a machine for almost a month, not to mention having to use other facilities for laundry (with no reimbursement). I asked the repairman what the holdup was…he said, ‘longer time to get service through Lowe’s and they couldn’t believe their machine would be that defective’ (he was having to save each part that came out of the machine to return as proof). Guess I’ll be going back to Sears (better service). Machine is working well now but not sure I’ll purchase that brand again. I mentioned returning to Sears to the repairmen and they told me Sears doesn’t have their own repairmen anymore because they do work for Sears. I immediately called Sears and they said that is not true, they do have their own and that outside repair people are contracted if the volume of work requires their customers to have a long wait.

WOW! YOU are one very lucky woman. That looks like an amazing washer and dryer. LOVE all the features you showed. ALL of them. And the sanitize one really sounds like something I would love to have to wash my kitchen linens. It would be great to be sure all the germies are gone from dish cloths and towels. Of course, if I was younger and had a baby, that would be an awesome thing to have too. Where were all these cool things when I was a young Mom? LOL

Lucky you for getting to demo one. My husband and I are just getting ready to get one ourselves. I’ve been debating between the Whirlpool and Maytag, which are one in the same. I’ll be ordering one this week. Great to know you love it so much. I’m hoping we will too. Our GE has seen better days and we’ve finally decided to upgrade after upteen years with GE.

Very cool, Cheryl, very cool. :> I would love a large capacity washer & dryer as I’m always doing laundry, but even more so because we have a Cal King bed. Anytime and everytime we need to wash our comforter and quilt, I either have to fork over the pennies for the dry cleaners or spend a few hours in a laundromat…neither are a happy option. Enjoy your new Whirpool W&D! :>

Reading this post it seems that Whirlpool is paying more attention to details and the needs of people. The design is greatly improved and also the performance. My advice is to pay more attention to performance by doing a search and seeing if there are any reviews in order to spend our money well and avoid buying a product that does not meet your needs. :-)

They just contacted you out of the blue and wanted to give you a washer and dryer??? Amazing.

We live in a condo so we have a stackable washer and dryer that I absolutely hate. I can’t wait to move so I can have a “normal” laundry room.

My husband helps out with laundry as well, but he makes a mess of it, especially when it comes to folding it. I usually end up re-doing it myself the following day when he’s not arround. However, he is not allowed anywhere near my new duets, but I don’t mind doing all the laundry in the house one bit now!!

I am doing more laundry to since I received my Whirlpool Duet, but I am not complaining. My husband doesn’t let the kids touch it, so I am always on laundry duty.

I will tell you that clean smelling laundry truly makes a difference. My husband is so thrilled that our clothes, towels and bedding actually smell clean now after being washed.

There are so many features! My favorite is the Precision Dispense among many others!

I bought my Whirlpool duet in 2009. There is no door at bottom to release water as in the newer models. The washer holds water in the drum (never fully takes all the water away). I feel this is nasty bacteria sitting in there. The gasket gets mold and cruddy. The only way to get rid of it is to fill every compartment (soap, rinse, bleach) with BLEACH and run a bleach only cycle to get rid of skum. This is a bad design. Further, there are setting that are unusable. Delicate/Quick wash/ spin cycles that won’t take the water out of the clothes! This is maddening. Front loaders are notorious for holding water in the drum/mold. But these settings are just ridiculous and if you can’t spin dry anything. you have to use the NORMAL CYCLES only, and that is the only cycle that works! How dumb is that? Never again for a fron load. I have the duet and loved it until all this took place. Who is designing these machines? Not women, that’s for sure!

    • TidyMom replied on January 28th, 2013 at 6:39 pm

Sorry, I don’t have any of these issues. I’ve never had water left in the drum and I’ve never had a problem with the gasket getting moldy or cruddy.

Hi TidyMom :) I have a question if that’s OK.

How does this particular washer fare when it comes to preventing odors from developing in the drunk and the dispenser? I know there is a self cleaning cycle available, but is that really enough to keep it smelling fresh? We’re in the market for a new front-loader and this is the model we’ve got our eye on, we’ve just heard so many horror stories of odor problems from friends that we’re really not sure what to think.

I hope you are still checking the comments here! Thanks

    • TidyMom replied on July 6th, 2013 at 10:33 am

I’ve had no problems what so ever with my machines, and I’ve now had them for a year and a half or more. I do run the monthly clean cycle with the Afresh tablets, and I keep the washer do open a crack (we only close it shut when running a cycle)
